However, of those, only 96 are rated the most desirable PSA 10. The darker and edgier artwork of this card adds to the appeal, as does, of course, the gold star by the name. While $60,000 is the highest price paid so far, these cards average a selling price between $20,000 and $30,000.

Interestingly, this is the first Pokemon card in the top 20 that is so poor quality-wise, it didnt even receive a grade. In situations like this, PSA will still give it an official Authentication. Dont let the grading fool you, though, as the Tropical No. 2 Trainer card is pristine except the back which has color loss and fading due to the sun.
Given out originally at the 1999 Mega Battle tournament in Japan, only the top players received this Pokemon card. In total, PSA has only seen five of these, making it one of the rarest Pokemon cards in existence. Its so scarce that its still worth a jaw-dropping amount despite its quality setbacks think about that.

Base Set: Unlimited Edition
Unlimited Edition made a number of aesthetic changes to the face of the cards. The overall card appears to be a lighter and brighter printing than the previous Limited Editions. The drop shadow was added behind the art box to add some depth to the card. In addition, certain text, such as the Pokémons HP value, was set in a bold typeface.
There were reportedly six separate printings of the Unlimited Edition of the Base Set. The first five print runs had a copyright line that read: © 1995, 96, 98 Nintendo, Creatures, GAMEFREAK. ©1999 Wizards.. These five print runs are completely identical, with no way to differentiate between them. The final print run, which was allegedly only available in the United Kingdom, can be differentiated by a change to the copyright line which reads, ©1995, 96, 98 Nintendo, Creatures, GAMEFREAK. ©1999-2000 Wizards. Cards from the sixth print run are much rarer due to their limited geographical distribution.
With five to six printings, these cards are by far the most common Base Set cards in existence, and their prices reflect that. Unlimited Edition was printed to meet the insane demand of a public that became obsessed with Pokémon. A Charizard from these printings could fetch about $500 in Near Mint condition from a collector.

- Pokemania may end soon. As with any investment, hype, and influencer marketing drive up the price of investments. So, prices may quickly deflate.
- Appraisal is difficult and expensive.If you plan to invest in a card worth $5,000+ one day in the future, youll have to pay PSA $300 just to reappraise it and if the markets hot enough to sell it, theres a chance the company will become overwhelmed again and suspend services, jeopardizing your timing.
- Cards could get lost, stolen, or damaged. Pokémon cards only hold their value if they remain in 100% pristine condition. If a PSA 10 Charizard drops to PSA 9 while its in your possession, it loses 80% of its value.

Sure, demand for rare Pokémon cards may be high right now, but it could easily disappear overnight as young investors and collectors turn to something else. Nidoking is a dual-type poison and ground Pokémon that is the final evolved form of Nidoran.

Japanese Pokmon Heartgold And Soulsilver Sets
When the Heartgold and Soulsilver Pokémon trading card lineup was released in Japan, it was done differently from in America. It also had an abnormally long waiting period in between the first and second sets.
Heartgold and Soulsilver Collection
Heartgold and Soulsilver Collection is the first Japanese set based on the Heartgold and Soulsilver games. It has 140 cards in total, including the following special cards: Alph Lithograph, Ursaring Prime, Crobat Prime, Typhlosion Prime, Meganium Prime, Blissey Prime, Donphan Prime, Ampharos Prime, Feraligatr Prime, Lugia LEGEND, and Ho-Oh LEGEND. Pokmon World Championships No 2 Trophy Trainer Card
The Hilton Anaheim Hotel in California hosted the 2006 Pokémon World Championships. This exclusive event had three days of competition, with players gradually knocked out until only 32 were invited to the third-day single-elimination main tournament. Its believed only three of these No. 2 Trophy Trainer cards were handed out however, only one has been verified and graded by PSA, with a grade of 9 Mint. The artwork shows the Gen 1 Kanto Pokémon Mascot Pikachu holding a trophy and inviting the winner back for the 2007 competition. Selling for $110,100 in 2021, this is definitely one of the most rare and expensive Pokemon cards and unlikely to head to market again soon.
First Edition No Rarity Poliwrath
You might be surprised to know that some of the rarest Pokémon cards arent rare at all . The first printed sets of Japanese base set cards dont feature any rarity symbol like their English-language counterparts and are some of the most expensive Pokémon cards on the market.
This no rarity Poliwrath is extremely rare, with only three known to exist with a perfect PSA 10 rating, one of which sold for over $25,000 in late 2020. Even near-mint PSA 9 copies will sell for around $2000 on average.

Japanese Summer Battle Road Mew Victory Orb Trophy
Only the top three players from each age range in the 2005 Japanese Summer Battle Road tournament received this trophy promo card. As such, its one of the most rare and expensive Pokémon cards. The Pokémon Daisuki Club is Japans official Pokémon fan club which awards points to members for competing in tournaments and participating in the community . Players can turn in these points to obtain exclusive cards that arent available anywhere else.
In 2010, the Pokémon Daisuki Club offered this exclusive Masters Scroll card to players for 8,600 points. The exact number of copies of this card is unknown, but we do know that only 26 have earned a PSA 10 grade.

In previous promotions, McDonalds stores announced the Pokemon Happy Meal in celebration of the Nintendo propertys 25th anniversary.
The meals came in a specially designed yellow box with Pikachus smiling face on the front that opened to reveal the fixings of a Happy Meal and a future gold mine for any lucky resellers that managed to get their hands on the meal.

Sold in January, 2021 for $37,000
If you come across a First Edition Charizard from the German release, youll notice that Charizards name is instead Glurak.
Also, unlike the English version, youll notice the First Edition German version is not shadowless.
Thats true of the other non-English first editions as well.
Of the 900 German first edition Gluraks that PSA has graded at the time of this writing, 50 have received the lofty PSA 10 distinction.
Thats about a 5.5% success rate compared to around 3.7% for the English first edition Charizards, making it relatively easier to find in that condition.
