Despite not being one of the iconic starters or legendaries, Chansey is still one of the most valuable cards from Pokemon’s Base Set. Like every other base set card, the Shadowless version gets a much higher price at auction.
There are 48 PSA 10-graded holo, shadowless Chanseys verified by the PSA. Despite that, they don’t tend to fetch as high a price as their slightly more common expansion mates, like Charizard, probably because it is a less popular Pokemon. The last verified auction sale of a PSA 10 Chansey was in 2021, when PWCC Auctions sold one for $27,412.
Pokmon Neo Destiny 1st Edition Shining Charizard #107
It didnt take long for a Charizard to make it onto the list.
Rather than the Shadowless first edition version found in the base collection, were looking at the 2002 Shining Charizard that came with the Neo Destiny set.
The first offering to highlight Light Pokémon, which counterbalanced the more aggressive Dark Pokémon in gameplay, it was also the first issue to feature Shining cards with a design that presented only the Pokémon in foil material in the artwork.
The Charizard is one such example, finished in a muted silver foil that contrasts well with the rest of the card.
There are 222 PSA 10 copies according to the registry, but that hasnt stopped values from rising due to the popularity of the fire-breathing lizard.
Shining cards were originally inserted at a 300:1 rate.
First Edition Shadowless Holographic Chansey
Its a good thing Chansey likes to care for the sick and injured because you might pass out when you learn how much this card is worth. Several of the 48 recorded PSA 10 copies of this rare first edition Chansey have sold for over $25,000 at auction, with the highest sale sitting at $36,877.

Pokemon World Championship Master Key Trophy Card
Sold in August, 2020 for $26,900
The Pokémon World Championships are where the best of the best meet each year to battle it out for money, prizes, and the title of Pokémon World Champion.
Players who earn enough points in qualifiers and smaller tournaments receive a special invitation to compete in the three-day event held in rotating locations.
The first tournament kicked off in 2004 in Orlando, Florida, but in 2010 the competition made its way to the Hilton in Waikoloa Village, Hawaii.
Just thirty-six contestants participated in the 2010 event and each received a copy of this beautiful foil card in a special case.
With so few of them ever produced, they are among the rarest Pokemon cards, and command huge prices if and when they do surface for sale or auction.
Psa 10 Torchic Gold Star Holo Ex Team Rocket Returns: $50000
In the early-to-mid 2000s, popularity in Pokemon was waning. “Pokemania” was on the way out, and that meant a lot of the Pokemon TCG expansions at the time suffered from lower sales and smaller print runs. With Pokemon back on top again now, cards from that era often see higher values than cards older than them. A great example of this is the Gold Star Torchic from EX Team Rocket Returns.
Gold Star Pokemon showcase Pokemon in their shiny forms and have the Pokemon breaking out of the frame as an early example of the many alternate styles the TCG would later experiment with. Why Torchic specifically is worth so much is anyone’s guess, but with only 17 verified PSA 10 grade copies out there, the PSA values them at $50,000 each. Actual auction prices are a bit lower though, as in 2020 PWCC Auctions sold a copy for $25,400.

Pokemon Japanese Base Set Holo No Rarity Symbol Holo Charizard

The 1996 Japanese “No Rarity” Charizard card is a true piece of hobby history as it marked one of the first appearances of the iconic character.
Most Japanese base set cards will contain a “rarity symbol” in the lower-right corner of the card that varies based on the card type.
Holographic cards in the set feature a star symbol, so if you find one without the rarity symbol, then you know you’re looking at the more rare, first-print “no rarity” Charizards.
The “no rarity” Charizards are much more difficult to find as PSA has graded 3,634 regular base set Charizards compared with only 273 “no rarity” Charizards.
Furthermore, roughly 14% of the regular base Charizards have achieved a PSA 10 grade compared to less than 2% of the “no rarity” Charizards.

Many of the rarest Pokémon cards date from the trading card games early days, with first edition cards released in the 1990s ranking as among the most valuable Pokémon cards today.
While the first edition stamp on cards is highly sought-after in the English edition of the Pokémon card game, the rarest Japanese Pokémon cards are instead identified by their lack of a stamp. Specifically, a missing black star in the bottom-right of a Japanese-language card is whats known as No Rarity – meaning that the card is missing the common symbol used to signify a Pokémon cards rarity.
No Rarity Pokémon cards are among the rarest Pokémon cards in existence, and few come rarer than the Venusaur Pokémon card from the games first print run in 1996. Just five copies of the Bulbasaur evolution – famous for appearing on the original video game Pokémon Green – have been graded at a perfect Gem-Mint 10 by PSA, making a flawless copy of the card extremely rare.
While a No Rarity Venusaur card commands a high price by itself, a copy sold in November 2021 set a new record for the rare Pokémon card by fetching $55,000 at auction. Helping the record sum was the signature of the cards illustrator Mitsuhiro Arita – the legendary artist behind many Pokémon cards from the last 20-plus years – on the cards case, making the already rare Pokémon card truly one-of-a-kind.

The Pokémon Daisuki Club is Japans official Pokémon fan club which awards points to members for competing in tournaments and participating in the community . Players can turn in these points to obtain exclusive cards that arent available anywhere else.

There are a zillion different stipulations in terms of what elevates the price to this level. It has to be the right printing, absolutely flawless condition, meaning if you held it in your hand as a kid for more than five seconds before sealing it away, its probably not good enough already. Then you have to have the card graded by professionals, and since this has become such a popular trend recently, theres a huge backlog in that field, and it would take a long, long time to get that certification, whatever grade it ends up being. Its not impossible, and you could still have a valuable one, but to reach this level, your card would have to be on another plane of existence entirely.

To celebrate The Pokémon Company CEO Tsunekazu Ishihara’s 60th birthday, the company produced an extremely limited run of a card featuring an illustration of the CEO holding a Master Ball. The card itself was handed out to employees and guests at a private event celebrating the CEO’s birthday, with a total print run estimated anywhere between 30 to 200 cards.
The card itself is a fun twist on the typical Pokémon card setup, with abilities and card text making constant reference to Ishihara’s 60th birthday. The 60 Congratulations! ability damages opponents for 1060 HP and allows players to flip 60 coins. For every heads that appears, they can take one present .
While a PSA GEM MINT 10 copy of this card sold for $50,000 a few years ago, a PSA NM 7 version featuring Ishihara’s signature sold on Goldin Auctions on April 24, 2021 for $247,230. For context, bidding only started at $500. It seems like this Pokémon card’s worth was a surprise, even to the owner.

Commissioned Presentation Galaxy Star Hologram Blastoise
In an effort to bring the Pokémon Trading Card Game out of Japan and into the West, Wizards of the Coast commissioned a pair of cards to pitch an English-language version of the game to Nintendo. One of these cards a Blastoise hologram card made its way onto Heritage Auctions and sold on Jan 14, 2021 for a cool $360,000.
What makes this Blastoise card unique is that the back of the card is completely blank, as the design hadn’t been finalized yet. The second card of the pair was created to demonstrate an international version of the card, but no one knows where it is or who currently owns it it’s possible this card’s companion is completely lost to time.
Psa 10 Holo Rayquaza Gold Star Ex Deoxys: $37420
If Charizard is the king of Pokemon, Rayquaza is definitely up there in the royal family. It tends to value highly in any set it appears in, but none are as rare as EX Deoxys’ Rayquaza Gold Star, which only has 56 verified PSA 10 quality cards in circulation, putting it on par with the famous Holo Base Set Shadowless Charizard.
The PSA values PSA 10-grade Gold Star Rayquazas at an incredibly high $40,400. Auctions can swing wildly either side of that price, too. In 2021 alone, there were three up for sale by Goldin Auctions, with the highest selling for $44,280 and the lowest for $34,440.
