Fans will be happy to know that both Riolu and Lucario make a return with Pokémon Sword and Shield. They are challenging to track down, and can only be found in the Wild Area, near the Giants Cap, and only during certain weather conditions.
You will need to hunt for these two Pokémon during Snowstorms, so if you arrive at the Giants Cap and the weather is not what you need, you can try changing it by changing the time on your Switch.
To change the time on your Switch, follow these steps:
- Navigate to System Settings
- Scroll down to the System Tab
- Change your timezone
- Save the change
You should only change the time in increments of about two to three hours. Keep in mind there is no guarantee that the next weather cycle in the area will be a Snowstorm, so keep changing it until you get lucky.
Riolu has a 5 percent chance to spawn, while Lucario can spawn in the area as a Strong Spawn. If you catch Riolu, you will also be able to evolve it into Lucario. To do so, you will need to max out its Happiness Points, and then level it up once during the day.
To increase a Pokémons Happiness Points, you will need to have it in your party and win battles with it. Playing with Riolu in the Pokémon Camp will also help, as will feeding it plenty of Curry.

A new event in Pokemon Sword and Shield is causing little Pokemon to appear more frequently in Max Raid Battles for a limited time. One of these little Pokemon is Riolu, the Fighting-type Pokemon that evolves into Lucario.

There are multiple ways to find a Riolu to battle in Pokemon Sword and Pokemon Shield.
First, you can visit the Pokemon Dens in the Wild Area that have a beam of light shooting out of them into the sky. Interact with one of these Dens to see which Pokemon is there to battle.
If you see the silhouette in the screenshot below, youll know youve found a Riolu to battle!
If you don’t find Riolu this way, remember that you can cause more Max Raid Battles to appear in your Wild Area by completing all of the battles that are currently active.
You can also cause a Pokemon to appear in a Pokemon Den by tossing a Wishing Piece into it. To use a Wishing Piece, interact with a Pokemon Den that doesnt have an active Max Raid Battle to collect your Watts. Interact with the Den a second time, and youll be asked if you want to use a Wishing Piece. Choose Yes, and a Pokemon will appear in the Den for you to battle. It may be Riolu!

While many Legendary Pokemon can be encountered and captured by completing Dynamax Adventures, others require you to complete different missions and actions. One of these is Registeel.
Heres everything you need to know about finding, battling, and catching Registeel in the Crown Tundra!
As you make your way through the storyline in The Crown Tundra expansion, Peony will ask you to explore a series of ruins throughout the region in order to discover the Pokemon located inside.
Registeel can be found inside the Iron Ruins.
The Iron Ruins are found in the Giants Bed area of the Crown Tundra. Check out the screenshot below to see their exact location.
When you interact with the door to the Iron Ruins, youll receive a clue that can help you figure out how to open it: Let ring the piercing note that will wake the giant of steel.
As reported by Instagram user exclusivespoke, you can open the door by simply standing in front of it and whistling .
Once you head inside the Iron Ruins, walk across the seven circles on the floor to cause them to light up . This will cause the statue at the back of the room to light up as well.
Interact with the statue and select Yes to instantly start your battle against Registeel. This is a normal Pokemon battle, meaning it gives you a chance to capture Registeel!
Shiny Riolu To Be Available Only From Eggs
Trainers, the Sinnoh Celebration event is right around the corner and many players are wondering if Shiny Riolu will be available in the wild.
Niantic and Pokemon Go announced and confirmed all features about the upcoming Sinnoh Celebration event, but they didnt make it clear where one can find a shiny Riolu.
They confirmed that all 7KM Eggs will hatch specific Pokemon during the event such as:
- Budew
- Hippopotas
- Mantyke
and they did confirm that we might encounter a Shiny Riolu, but they didnt mention if this Pokemon and its shiny forms will be available from Eggs or in the wild.
Now, Niantic Support confirmed on their official Twitter account that Riolu can be hatched from Eggs, but we cant encounter this Pokemon in the wild. This means that Riolu and its shiny forms will be available only from 7KM Eggs and 10KM Adventure Sync Eggs.

Getting Riolu In Pokemon Sword And Shield
Riolu can be caught in both Pokemon Sword and Shield by heading to the Giants Cap in the east of the north part of the Wild Area. Unfortunately, youre going to have to hope for a snowstorm, as thats the only weather this little tyke will show up in.
Even if youre in Giants Cap will a snowstorm blowing you off your feet, Riolu only has a 5% spawn rate. This is the only location Riolu can be found in Pokemon Sword and Shield right now, so best get ready to do some hunting.
How To Catch Riolu In Pokmon Sword And Shield
Riolu appears in Pokémon Sword and Shield between level 28 and level 32, but as we discussed above, Riolu is a very rare Pokémon to find in the Wild Area.
When you finally catch a glimpse of a Riolu, they will charge at you if you come into range. However, as they are so rare, youll want to make sure that you catch Riolu in your first encounter.
When youve encountered Riolu and enter into battle, you should keep in mind that it is a fighting-type Pokémon.
As such, avoid using fairy, psychic, or flying-type moves as they are super effective against Riolu. To notch down its health, use rock, dark, and bug-type moves as they are not very effective against Riolu.
The best way to go with this rare Pokémon is an Ultra Ball as soon as you cut it down to half of its health. You could also try a Quick Ball at the start of the encounter as theyve proven to be quite potent in Pokémon Sword and Shield.

Where To Find Riolu In Pokmon Sword And Shield
Riolu has been in the National Dex since Generation IV and has earned a huge fan following since.
How to evolve Riolu hasnt changed in Generation VIII from the original method of getting Lucario in Generation IV, but finding Riolu in Sword and Shield is certainly a tough ask.
Finding Riolu in Pokémon Sword and Shield is, by far, the most difficult part of the whole process of getting a Lucario.
The only way that you can find Riolu is in the following location and weather conditions:
- Giants Cap: Snowstorms
While it is nice that Riolu pops up in the overworld, the Emanation Pokémon is an incredibly rare spawn in just one type of weather.
To make matters worse, the best place to find Riolu is wrought with Sneasels, which are both aggressive and look similar to Riolu in the tall grass.
However, there is a way that you can change the weather and set your Pokémon Sword or Pokémon Shield time to increase your chances of spotting a Riolu.
To trigger snowstorms in Giants Cap, youll want to change the date on your Nintendo Switch. For a complete guide on how to change the weather in Sword and Shield, consult this guide.
There is a proven date and time on which you can increase your chances of seeing a wild Riolu, though. Credit to BeardBear for this, as changing the date to 1 February 2019 and 11:40 soon resulted in a Riolu popping up.

As its Special Attack is slightly higher than its Attack, Lucario is also highly capable as a Special Attacker. Although it only learns moves from a few types, it can learn moves with high power in its own types, allowing to deal heavy STAB damage.

Pokemon Sword And Shield How To Get Lucario
Lucario is another of the famous Pokemon that youll find in Pokemon Sword and Shield. Like our previous guide on getting Snorlax, getting Lucario is going to be similar in nature. Lucario is another high level rare Pokemon thatll take a little bit of work to be able to catch and add to your collection.
Lucario is going to be found in the Wild Area south of Motostoke. More precisely, youll find him at the North Lake Miloch area within the Wild Area. We found him spawn in at the southern most part of this area on a cliff right next to one of the glowing pink dens.
Like other strong Pokemon in this area, youll need to have a few gyms under your belt before youll be able to survive a fight and capture Lucario. Lucario is a level-36 Pokemon and youll like need to use some special Pokemon catching techniques to get him.
Tips On How To Use The Lucario Attack Build Effectively
With this build, a strong offense is the best defense, and players should use their power to back up allies in confrontations across the map. Just keep in mind that no pokemon can be a team by themselves, regardless of how proud they are of their power. Running into multiple enemies attempting to win an uphill battle will more often than not result in unwise players feeding the enemy team easy knockouts for extra Exp.
However, with that said, an Attack-oriented Lucario build can be very dangerous if assembled correctly thanks to a couple of mighty moves. Firstly, theres Close Combat, which, while rather dull in the secondary effects department , is a great attacking move that has a decent area of effect in front of Lucario that unleashes multiple hits. Thanks to its simplicity, it is especially easy to implement in combat, with the best method of making the most out of Close Combat being to use it as often as possible.

Where To Find Riolu In Sword And Shield
The pre-evolution of the Aura Pokémon is not the easiest to find, as Riolu only appears during Snowstorm. And only in one place in the Wild Area. So to find Riolu on Pokémon Sword and Shield, you’ll need a Snowstorm weather and go to the Giant’s Cap area in the Wild Area.
If you don’t have time for a Snowstorm, simply change the date on your Nintendo Switch system, but be careful as some features will be unavailable for a few hours.

Where To Find Lucario In Pokemon Sword & Shield
To get a Lucario in Pokemon Sword and Shield, you will first need to get a Riolu and that can be a bit of a hassle. You can start searching for a Riolu in the Giants Cap Wild Area. Make sure that the weather is chill as Riolu will only spawn if there is a snowstorm going on.
The spawn rate is pretty low so you might have to travel a bit in a circle, with a spawn rate of only 5% luck is a major factor and we hope you find one soon.
Once you do have a Riolu, you will have to increase its happiness level or friendship level to about 220 in Pokemon Sword and Shield. You will need to do this during the day to make sure that your Riolu evolves into a Lucario.
Other than this method you can try the Max Raid Battles in North Lake Miloch, Dusty Bowl, Hammerlocke Hills, Giants Seat, or Rolling Fields.
We once again would like to remind you that there is no guaranteed way but these Max Raid battles happen to have a Lucario in them, that too is a small chance.
