Lugia is a psychic and flying-type Pokemon that was introduced in Generation 2 and is also called Diving Pokemon. The Pokemon has a height of 17′ 01″ and weighs 476.2 pounds. Since the Pokemon has immense power in its wings, its lives deep under the sea. However, the Pokemon is weak to five other Pokemon-types: Ghost, Dark, Electric, Ice, and Rock. The Pokemon does not have an evolutionary form.

A lot of trainers are wondering about how to catch Lugia in Pokemon Go and what beats Lugia in Pokemon Go. Since it is a powerful Pokemon, trainers might need to deploy their best team along with the best move sets. Keep reading to know more about the legendary Pokemon.

How To Catch Lugia In Pokemon Go

Like other Legendary Pokemons in Pokemon Go, Lugia is available to battle and catch in five-star raids or legendary raids. In order to defeat the powerful Pokemon, trainers must bring their strongest team, consisting of Pokemons that Lugia is weak against. The trainer might need the help of their team members as well. Additionally, the use of Golden Razz Berries will increase the chance of landing the Pokeballs at the right spot. For those who are unaware, Raids are time-bound encounters that allow players to team up and defeat powerful Pokemons at gyms. Each raid has its own specific Pokemon to fight. Trainers can track several raids using their radar.

Where To Find Lugia And What Players Need

Though Lugia is a Psychic/Flying-type Pokemon, it’s actually commonly associated with the water. As such, Lugia can be found in the Lental Seafloor location in New Pokemon Snap. The Lental Seafloor location is unlocked a decent way through the game, so players are going to have to put in some hours before they can reach the area. To unlock the Lental Seafloor location, players must first reach research level 2 in Maricopia Reef . Next, players are going to need a certain type of Illumina Orb before they can actually reach Lugia.

Specifically, players are going to need pink Illumina Orbs to unlock an alternate path that will take them to Lugia’s location. Thankfully, pink Illumina Orbs can be unlocked in the Lental Seafloor as well. Players will need to take a picture of a glowing pink Frillish in order to unlock these types of Illumina Orbs. With these pink Illumina Orbs, players can begin their quest to find Lugia in the Lental Seafloor.

Best Raid Counters For Lugia

Catching Lugia In Pokmon Go

Lugia has a notoriously hard-to-hit catch circle. The best way to guarantee you catch Lugia is to use the circle lock technique, but you should go in expecting a learning curve for this one. Not only does Lugia travel up and down the screen in a strange way, but it’s also set at a bizarre distance that will take some throwing to learn.

Using the circle lock technique, players can hold down the ball until Lugia’s catch circle shrinks. Releasing when the circle is at its smallest point allows the circle to lock in place, guaranteeing an “Excellent” throw if the ball can hit that point. To make sure that can be done, throw the ball when Lugia is finishing its attack. Be aware, though Lugia’s attack is very hard to judge, making it more difficult to use Circle Lock on successfully than other bosses. The best berry to help catch it is the Golden Razz Berry.

While Lugia isn’t considered the most powerful of the legendary Pokémon in the main game, in the Orre region it rules the roost. Supposedly being immune to purification, it leaves some massive footsteps to follow in for the rest of the shadow gang.

Lugia Weakness In Pokemon Go

That gives us quite a few options to use against it, but which of those is the best if they all do the same damage rate?

Well, we can look into what attacks Lugia has and see which types have the best matchup into as many of those moves as possible. For Fast Attacks, Lugia uses Dragon Tail and Extrasensory Dragon and Psychic, respectively. As fast attacks will hit you constantly, finding a counter to these is particularly useful. As it happens, all of the counter-types are already taking at most standard damage from these attacks, however, so we dont need to worry much in this case.

It should be noted that Dark-Types have the advantage of completely negating the Psychic-type attacks from Lugia in Pokemon Go with immunity.

For Charged Attacks, Lugia uses more Psychic, a Water-type attack and two Flying-type moves. Ice and Ghost gain no particular advantage against any of these attack types, so should likely be avoided if you can use another Lugia counter instead. Rock and Electric-types fare well by resisting both Flying-type moves, though Dark-type is likely your best as it instead ignores a third of Lugias possible attacks.

The Best Pokmon To Counter Lugia

The best Pokémon to counter Lugia in this five-star raid are Magnezone, Rampardos, and Mega Gengar.

Magnezone is an Electric and Steel-type Pokémon. It has a robust defense thanks to its Steel-typing, but its Electric attacks exploit Lugias weaknesses extremely well, making a surefire choice for the fight. The best moves Magnezone can learn is spark for its fast move and wild charge and zap cannon for its charge moves.

The next Pokémon you may want to use will be Rampardos, a Rock-type Pokémon. Rampardos doesnt have the highest defense, and outside of five-star raids, you dont really want to use it in Pokémon battles against other trainers. If you have one, chances are youre only going to use it for PvE battles. The best moveset Rampardos can use against Lugia is the fast move smack down, and the charged moves rock slide and outrage.

The final Pokémon you want to have on your team against Lugia is Mega Gengar. Its the best choice to take it down, given how powerful it is, and it can easily hit many of Lugias weaknesses. Plus, it will boost the other Pokémon other players are using in the same raid battle. The best moveset for it to know for this battle utilizes shadow claw for its fast move and shadow ball and shadow punch for its charge moves.

Youre going to need to build a team of six Pokémon to defeat Lugia. These are some other choices to consider to add to your roster during the five-star raid.

What Counters Lugia In Pokemon Go

When youre familiar with the Pokemon series, you know that general rules tend to hold true regarding what Type of Pokemon does well against another there might be a few exceptions but its quite reliable. Thus despite its overall simplicity, the Pokemon series has a very logic-based depth to it, in that every type has its own set of weaknesses and strengths.

This means that in a simpler game of the series, such as Pokemon Go, where you sometimes even know what Pokemon youll be fighting in advance and with Pokemon having fewer potential moves they can use, you can often make a determination as to what type will be the best counter option in battle before it starts.

In the case of battling a Psychic/Flying dual-type like Lugia, you have quite a few counter options you can choose from, as well as a few types to avoid entirely.

Lugia will have some level of resistance against Grass and Psychic-type attacks, and very strong resistance against Fighting and Ground-types. Lugia does however also possess a weakness to quite a few types in Pokemon go Dark, Electric, Ghost, Ice and Rock-types.

Self Aware Of Its Power

Lugia

One of the smartest Pokémon in the game, being able to talk to humans through telekinesis is just one of its many talents. Lugia is so self-aware that instead of using its massive power on a whim like the other tanks, it buries itself at the bottom of the ocean as not to cause damage.

How Many Players Does It Take To Beat Lugia In Pokmon Go

Lugia is a tough Raid because its defense is just so high. Beating the clock is the real challenge here. Even with top level Trainers and the best circumstances, you’ll still need three, but for lower level Trainers or those without Mega or Shadow counters, you’ll want at least four or five.

Weather Conditions that could impact this Raid include:

  • Windy Weather will boost Lugia’s Dragon, Psychic, and Flying type moves.
  • Rainy Weather will boost Lugia’s Water type move, as well as your Electric type counters.
  • Fog will boost your Ghost and Dark type counters
  • Snow will boost your Ice type counters
  • Partly Cloudy Weather will boost your Rock type counters.

Dragon Tail + Sky Attack And Aeroblast*

With the Season 8 buff to Dragon Tail, its incredible damage output now makes it the superior option to Extrasensory despite having slightly less energy gain. Dragon Tail is especially preferred in Master League due to the ubiquitous use of Dragon-type Pokemon.

Sky Attack is a very efficient move, benefits from STAB, and costs the least amount of energy. Future Sight requires a steep 65 energy cost, and is generally not preferable due to this cost unless Psychic-type coverage is highly needed. Hydro Pump takes longer to charge, has lower base damage per energy, and lacks STAB, but it does allow Lugia to perform better against a number of potential threats, such as Steel- and Rock-types. The addition of Aeroblast from the Nov 2020 Animation Week event is a debatable but nonetheless welcome addition to Lugia’s kit, demanding an expensive 75 energy cost but in return offering a massive 170 base power . With STAB, Aeroblast when resisted performs almost identically to Hydro Pump, which makes Lugia’s signature move more preferable due to its minor chance to proc its +2 ATK buff, despite not offering additional coverage.

Off The Charts Defense

Flying-type Pokémon, while effective in certain conditions and incredibly helpful for travel, aren’t known for their combat stats. Speed is the only thing they top the boards with, giving them the opportunity for the first shot without the power to back it up.

Lugia, on the other hand, has its fair share of type weaknesses. Making it a liability for the amount of attack power it has. To balance this out, despite its Flying-type nature, Lugia has one of the highest Special Defense stats available.

Lugia, the legendary guardian of the seas from the Johto region, makes a return to Pokémon GO. At long last, players can add this Psychic- and Flying-type Pokémon to their Pokédex, alongside its famed counterpart Ho-oh.

It will not be easy to get Lugia in Pokémon GO, though, because it does not appear in the wild. Like other legendary Pokémon, it only appears in five-star raids. These are the most difficult raids, so players will need to bring their best Pokémon and tactics to the fight, along with lots of allies.

Five-star raids cannot be done solo, so players will need to team up with others to take Lugia down. Depending on where a player lives, it can be difficult to find others, but there are many Pokémon GO groups on Facebook, Discord, and other social media platforms. These should allow players to coordinate to be in the same place at the same time for the raid, or complete the raid via Remote Raid Passes.

What Are The Best Counters For Lugia In Pokmon Go

Lugia is capable of dealing Psychic, Flying, Dragon, and Water damage. It takes super effective damage from Rock, Ghost, Electric, Ice, and Dark attacks. It’s greatest strength, however, is its defense. Lugia is bulky and can take a lot of damage, so you’re going to want to focus on heavy hitters to beat the clock. Mega Evolution is definitely going to be your friend here, especially if you can coordinate with the rest of your Raid party.

Without the CP cap holding it down, Lugia gets to make use of its full power in the Master League. Possessing the game’s highest bulk AND stat product, on top of a powerful moveset, Lugia is an absolute force to be reckoned with. Its typing and moves allow it to counter big threats such as Groudon, Palkia, Garchomp, and Focus Blast Mewtwo. Lugia’s fantastic bulk also allows it to cushion blows from the numerous nukes in the metagame, making it an excellent Pokemon to catch charge moves with. The sheer power of Aeroblast can tear off a tremendous chunk of health even when resisted, making Pokemon like Dialga and Metagross seriously consider shielding it, while Lugia’s bulk allows it to consistently satisfy the move’s immense energy demands. Lugia is an excellent safe switch and, despite its many weaknesses, it pretty much only hard loses to Melmetal.
