What Are Some Rare Pokemon Cards

Pokmon Secret Super Battle Number 1 Trainer Card

I Bought some VERY EXPENSIVE HYPER RARE Pokemon Cards!

During the Challenge Road ’99 SUMMER event , the Secret Super Battle and the Tropical Mega Battle were early side tournaments which invited elementary school students to compete. The Super Secret Battle played host to kids from third grade up to high school . The Secret Super Battle cards featured a Mewtwo silhouette and the event logo artwork by Hideki Kazaa. Along with the Tropical Mega Battle cards, the Secret Super Battle cards represented the first trainer cards with new artwork breaking away from the Trophy Pikachu for the first time.

What’s it worth? If you have an extra $150,000 to splurge, you can add this rare Pokemon card to your collection via Heritage Auctions. One is listed for sale there now at the time of this publication.

Pokemon Japanese Promo Daisuki Club 7200 Points Holo Umbreon

Sold in June, 2021 for $18,100

The Pokemon Daisuki Club started in 2004 and provided many benefits to its members, such as mini-games, contests, and special offers.

One of those cards was this holographic Umbreon card, and to earn it, the player needed to acquire 7,200 action points, which was no easy task.

Umbreon is one of eight different characters into which Eevee, a normal-type Pokemon, can evolve when leveled up with high friendship during the night in certain areas.

Its red eyes and the yellow markings on its slender black body give the dark-type Umbreon an unmistakable appearance giving this card tremendous eye appeal.

Pokmon Base Set 1st Edition Shadowless Holo Raichu #14

We begin the top 10 with the evolution for the most popular Pokémon on the planet.

The evolved form of Pikachu, Raichu is similar in design to the electric mouse that traveled everywhere with Ash Ketchum.

Its nowhere near as popular, but the association with Pikachu has helped to boost values in recent years.

With 87 gem mint copies according to the registry, its not especially rare by any means, while the foil is a neutral sparkly silver.

It manages to snag a spot in the top ten, but Id personally prefer an Alakazam or a Mewtwo rather than a Pokémon most people disregard in favor of the base version.

Pokemon First Edition Blastoise

Sold in November, 2020 for $45,100

One of the coolest-looking of all Pokémon with its twin water cannons that retract from the shell on its back, Blastoise received a massive boost in popularity after serving as the cover mascot of the Pokémon Blue video game.

1st Edition Blastoise cards feature a first edition stamp to the lower left of the holographic image and no shadowing effect behind its right and bottom borders.

Out of the 2,070 first edition Blatoise cards submitted to PSA as of this writing, 100 of them have been given the PSA 10 distinction or roughly 4.8% of them.

Gold Star Espeon And Umbreon

The most expensive Pokémon card in the world costs just as ...

These cards are scarce and one in a million. There are just a few cards imprinted with the Gold Star. So if you were fortunate to come across one then, youd become the talk of the town. Moreover, the Star is found directly on the right-hand side of the cards name, which awards respect to its owner.

These unique cards are rare because their creators initially gave them only to the Pokemon Players Club members. But, this also came at a hefty price the members had to trade 50,000 points to have it in their possession.

Nevertheless, these cards are now available for the sum of $5,000 and $6,000 each.

Tamamushi University Magikarp: $50000

The Tamamushi University Magikarp card is so rare that despite the fact that it depicts a frankly awful Pokemon, it’s worth ridiculous sums of money. Why the high price? Well, the University Magikarp was a promotional card that saw very limited distribution at a Japanese tournament in the late 1990s.

RELATED: The Weakest Pokemon From Each Generation, Ranked

In total, 1000 of the cards were produced but far fewer were actually awarded and many were just stowed away forever. Barely any of these rare Magikarp cards are still in circulation today, and its incredibly rare to see new ones show up. At the moment, PSA Cards Price Guide chart lists perfectly-preserved cards to have sold for around $50,000, while copies with NM-MT 8 ratings still sell for amazing heights of $12,000.

Pokemon Pop Series 5 Gold Star Umbreon

Sold in December, 2020 for $20,000

To help boost participation in Pokemon leagues and Pokemon Organized Play events, players were treated to exclusive POP series cards released on a regular basis over roughly a five-year span.

POP Series 1 kicked things off around September 2004 with POP Series 9 bringing things to a close around September 2009.

Released between March 2007 and September 2007, POP Series 5 was the last EX Series promotional set and featured Espeon and Umbreon, two of the eight Pokemon that evolve from Eevee.

The POP Series 5 checklist contained seventeen cards in total with Epseon and Umbreon being the most elusive of them all, noted by the gold star distinction next to their name on the card fronts.

As of this writing, just fifty examples of this Umbreon card have achieved PSA 10 status.

Rayquaza Gold Star Holo Ex Deoxys

  • Release Date: 2005
  • Grading: PSA Gem Mint 10
  • Pokemon card value at auction: $45,100

An early favorite of Ruby & Sapphire, Rayquaza has seen an uptick in popularity over the last decade. So it makes sense then that its cards would also start to climb up in value over time. In 2005, The Pokemon Company released the Ex Deoxys TCG expansion featuring the Flying / Dragon-type.

As a gimmick to get Pokemon card collectors interested in the set, the Japanese company introduced Gold Star Pokemon cards into the hobby. As mentioned earlier, the incredibly rare Pokemon cards featured a special symbol next to the name of the mon. Of course, the king of these marked collectibles is the Hoenn Legendary itself.

In December 2020, a perfectly graded Gold Star Rayquaza sold at auction for $45,100. Given the Legendarys continued popularity in the franchise, and just how little of the gold Pokemon cards were actually produced, we expect this item to increase in value as time goes on.

The 10 Most Valuable Expensive Pokmon Cards

*I FOUND THEM* Extremely Rare Pokémon Card Collection from My Basement

Pokémon cards’ popularity shows no signs of slowing, with collectors prepared to spend thousands on unopened boxes and the rarest of cards.

Interest in Pokémon and the card game, described by Nintendo as “one of the most popular children’s entertainment properties in the world,” has only increased in recent years, with multiple card sales at auction hitting new highs in recent years.

But which are the most expensive Pokémon cards of them all?

We asked PWCC, a major marketplace for card trading, to round up those that have been sold for the most money, all between 2020 and 2021.

Take a look…

Most Expensive Pokemon Card In The World

Opinions may differ but the most expensive Pokemon card in the world as of June 2021 in our opinion is the 1999 Base First Edition Chaziard Holo #4 Logan Paul Pokemon Card with a BGS 10 Pristine grade.

The card was purchase by Paul in December of 2020 and was recently worn in his fight with Floyd Money Mayweather. He claims the card is worth 1 million dollars and we think he is actually pretty close.

We value the 1999 First Edition Chaziard Holo #4 Logon Paul Pokemon Card between $700,000 to $900,000.

Pokemon Japanese Promo Wonder Platinum Trophy Card

Sold in November, 2020 for $25,100

Held at the Prince Park Tower Tokyo on May 4, 2009, the final round of the 2009 Japan World Championship pitted finalists against each other in fierce competition.

Each of the twenty finalists across three different age divisions received one of these Wonder Platinum cards, so one can assume that only twenty of these cards made their way into collectors’ hands.

How many still exist today is unknown, but finding one graded in a BGS 9.5 holder is incredibly rare.

What is known is that this trainer card is one of the most highly coveted DPt-P promotional cards, and its imagery makes for an incredibly well-designed card.

Japanese Promo Masters Scroll Daisuki Club 8600 Points

Sold in March 2021, for $35,200

This holographic Masters Scroll card is one of several item cards that were part of the L-P Promotional cards released between September 2009 and August 2010.

Once a player accumulated 8,600 action points, he or she would earn the Master Rank distinction and a prize in the form of this Masters Scroll card.

Given the difficulty of acquiring such a massive amount of action points, not many members ever received one of these cards, making it one of the rarest promotional Pokemon cards in the hobby.

Pokemon Players Club Shiny Umbreon

The Rarest Pokémon Cards Of All Time

This Pokemon card is quite popular due to its beautiful coloration and attractive frame-piercing art exhibition. The Japanese version of the Shiny Umbreon is high in demand and desired by many Pokemon fans, as its the first of its kind.

Unfortunately, it wasnt properly released through the Japanese Pokemon Players Club in 2005-2006, which is the main reason for its rarity.

Notwithstanding, its price on Troll and Toad is quite affordable, and its around $1,900. So, if youre into blue and dark shiny Pokemon cards, you know where to look.

Pokmon Jungle 1st Edition Holo Snorlax #11

The 1999 Complete 1st Edition only covered about a third of the original Pokédex, with a number of heavy-hitters left out.

One such Pokémon was Snorlax, who played a large role in the first Game Boy games.

64 cards were released in the series, which added a number of interesting holo shinies to the original collection.

These cards featured different illustrators who brought their own ideas to the fore when designing the images.

Snorlax is found in the jungle expansion, as the eleventh card in the 99 release.

Only 71 copies have earned gem mint status so far, and the lazy Pokémon features on a difficult card to seek out.

Purchasing New Pokmon Cards From A Retail Store

  • 1Buy individual packs. Individual packs of cards have a random assortment of card varieties, and typically include a few rare cards. Every booster pack is guaranteed 1 rare card, but may also include more. This includes particularly rare cards, such as holofoil, and star rare.
  • The rares you get from booster packs are completely random. You may have to open many, many booster packs to find the one particular rare you want.XResearch source
  • 2Purchase promo tins. Promo tins typically come with a few booster packs, as well as a selection of specific rare cards. This can be a great way of achieving a particular rare , assuming its a rare that you want.XResearch source
  • New Pokémon tins are regularly released as new sets of cards come out. Older tins are not always kept in stock however, so make sure you take advantage of tin releases.
  • 3Purchase booster boxes. A booster box contains 36 booster packs, though it does not come with a guaranteed ultra rare, like the tins. Buying a box is the most efficient way of obtaining a large amount of cards, and many retailers will offer a small discount for purchasing a box.
  • Note that you will at least receive 36 rare cards by purchasing a box, and usually more than that. However, like buying individual packs, there is no guarantee of receiving a specific card that you desire.

    First Edition Cards In Review

Whether you are a fan of them or not, there’s no debating that first edition Pokémon cards are some of the hottest cards in non-sports card collecting.

The video games, television shows, and the cards themselves transformed Pokémon into a worldwide phenomenon with an enormous fan base.

And many of those kids who grew up with these cards are now adults with more spending power able to pay big bucks for them in top condition.

It doesn’t look like that trend will slow anytime soon as these cards have found their place as one of the most popular non-sports sets in the hobby.

Blastoise 1st Edition Shadowless Base Set

Most Expensive Pokemon Cards That You Might Have!
    • Release Date: 1999
    • Grading: PSA Gem Mint 10
    • Pokemon card value at auction: $45,100

Not only is Blastoise one of the most beloved characters in the Game Freak RPG, but the Water-type starter has also become one of the most valuable Pokemon cards currently on the market.

Those who grew up with the 1999 Base Set easily equated the turtle on the same level as the highly sought-after Charizard, so it makes sense that decades later, many are willing to bust out their wallets for the iconic mon.

While its 1st Edition Shadowless Pokemon card from 1999 has always brought in good money, the popular item has seen a massive jump in value recently. In a PWCC auction held in November 2020, the rare Base Set Blastoise sold for $45,100.

    Pokemon First Edition Chansey

Sold in November, 2020 for $36,877

Fewer than fifty examples of the First Edition Holographic Chansey have received the elusive PSA 10 distinction, making it one of the most difficult First Edition Holos to find in that grade.

Chansey is a lovable pink, normal-type Pokémon that uses the egg held in its pouch to complete its signature move known as “Soft-Boiled” to help heal people and other Pokémon.

Many believe that Chansey can bring joy and happiness to those who catch it in the Pokemon world, while this card in high grade will bring lots of money to those who own it in the real world.

Ex Dragon Frontiers Charizard Gold Star

Sold in November, 2020 for $30,300

Released in November 2006, the EX Dragon Frontiers set marked the fifteenth main expansion of the EX Series.

Of the 101 cards in the set checklist, there are two rare Gold Star cards: Charizard and Mew .

With the odds of pulling a Charizard thought to be roughly 1 in 144 packs, many collectors never had the fortune of pulling this card from a pack, giving it a reputation as one of the toughest Charizard pulls of any set.

Featuring a stunning image penned by the gifted hands of Masakazu Fukuda, the eye-appeal of this card is also tough to match as the powerful creature breathes fire onto the edge of the card.

Pokmon Charizard 1st Edition Card #4/102

Charizard is unquestionably one of the most popular Pokémon characters. Given his presence on the original Pokémon Red game cartridge, he’s linked to the brand almost as closely as Pikachu. Due in part to that popularity, a highly graded first edition card has proven itself as one that is dependably sought out by collectors and consistently valuable.

What’s it worth? The value of sale has been widely speculated, but it can easily sell for as much as $20,000 for a high-grade example. Add to that the play value of this one and you can see why people have been on the hunt for all versions of this character’s card since the card game’s inception.

Base Set Pokmon Booster Pack With Black Triangle Error

7 rare Pokémon cards In good condition

This one is not actually an individual card, but rather an entire pack. Wizards of the Coast accidentally printed some Base Set packs with the first edition logo on the front, so to avoid wasting these packs, the logo was covered with a black triangle.

The cards inside these booster packs are far less rare than the packaging, so collectors recommend leaving them sealed to maintain value. The packs can be found inside standard Base Set booster boxes, but there is no way of knowing if you have a rare pack without opening the box.

A PSA 10 condition booster pack with the black triangle error goes for around $2,500 on eBay.

What Makes A Pokemon Card Valuable

Over the past year, online personalities such as Logan Paul have propelled Pokemon card collecting back into popularity. With some cards being valued at over $100,000, its understandable why theres so much excitement around the hobby.

But what makes Pokemon cards valuable? It all comes down to the rarity of the card and what condition the item is in. These two factors determine how much collectors are willing to pay and why some cards go for mind-boggling amounts of money.

Pokmon Topsun 1995 First Edition Charizard

The Pokémon Topsun cards are slightly different from all the cards mentioned above. Back in 1997, you were able to purchase a pack with gum that included two cards featuring Pokémon. These cards are the first-ever Pokémon cards printed.

The reason Charizard is the most valuable is due to its cracked ice pattern holo background and its rarity. PSA has seen 79 of the cards and graded only 16 as being PSA 10 condition. According to PSAcard.com, the cards are known to go for up to $10,000.

    First Edition Holographic Raichu

Estimated PSA 10 Gem Mint Value: $2,500

Raichu, the rodent-like evolved form of Pikachu, is an electric-type Pokémon that uses its tail to gather electricity from both the ground and atmosphere.

As it charges, the creature stores the electricity in those circular, yellow sacs on its cheeks and once fully charged, Raichu’s ears will point directly upwards.

Raichu also uses its pointed tail as a ground to prevent itself from being electrically shocked.
