What’s New In Pokemon Go: Trade Evolution Shelmet Karrablast And More
You can now collect more Pokemon from the Unova region of the Pokemon universe.
Pokemon Gos latest update added a major new feature for trainers to enjoy: trade evolution. The feature is inspired by traditional Pokemon role-playing games , which require players to trade certain Pokemon in order to cause them to evolve. For instance, you must trade Haunter to another player to cause it to evolve into Gengar.
In Pokemon Go, the trade evolution feature wont cause a Pokemon to immediately evolve when you trade it. Instead, trading an eligible Pokemon will allow the recipient to evolve it using zero Pokemon Candy. That is, while you can still evolve Haunter into Gengar using 100 Gastly Candy, if you were to receive a Haunter through a trade with another Pokemon Go player, you wont have to spend any Candy to evolve it.
Pokemon like Kadabra, Machoke, Graveler, and Haunter are eligible for this trade evolution bonus. If youve previously received one of these Pokemon in a trade, but never evolved it, the bonus will automatically be applied to those Pokemon, so you can evolve them without spending any Candy.
As part of the games latest update, new Pokemon from the Unova region of the Pokemon universe are now appearing in the wild, in Raids, and in Eggs. For instance, creatures like Roggenrola, Tympole, Dwebble, Trubbish, Karrablast, Joltik, and Shelmet will now appear in the wild as you play, while Timburr is showing up in Tier 1 Raids.

Trade Evolutions In Pokmon Sword And Shield Explained
Having a Pokémon evolve after you trade it with another player is a staple of the Pokémon series.
It’s as simple as it sounds – trade the Pokémon with a friend, watch it evolve on their Nintendo Switch and then, hopefully, they’ll trade it back to you.
Some of the Pokémon that are traditionally evolved by trading can be found in the Wild Area. All of these Pokémon, however, are ‘Strong-looking’ Pokémon and you’ll need specific Gym Badges if you want to catch them.
If want one of these Pokémon before you have the correct Gym Badge, however, then trade evolution is the solution for you.
Below are all the Pokémon that evolve from just trade evolution in Pokémon Sword and Shield:
- Machoke evolves into Machamp
- Pumpkaboo evolves into Gourgeist
- Phantump evolves into Trevenant
Both Shelmet and Karrablast also evolve by being traded, but they must be traded with each other to cause their evolution.

What Are The Benefits Of Evolving Pokmon In Pokmon Sword And Shield
Evolving your Pokémon has a number of great benefits that makes the full process of training your Pokémon team more worthwhile.
Evolving a Pokémon will make it stronger, by raising its base stats and, sometimes, changing its type, making it a dual type Pokémon.
When Hattrem evolves into Hatterene, for example, it goes from being just a psychic-type Pokémon to being both a fairy and psychic-type Pokémon.
Once a Pokémon evolves it might also be able to learn new skills, both from TMs and from levelling up.
A Pokémon’s ability might change when it evolves as well, allowing you to adapt your play style to take full advantage of this change.
Finally, evolving Pokémon will also fill in empty entries in your Pokédex, allowing you to become the ultimate Pokémon Master.

Ghastly can typically be found wandering all over the wild areas. This makes sense considering Galar’s big population of otherworldly supernatural Pokémon . The areas they inhabit are Giant’s Seat, Hammerlocke Hills, North Lake Miloch, and the Watchtower Runs. Ghastly prefer to come out mostly during overcast weather or intense sun, so you’ll want to double check your map for the forecast before going to catch one.
This Pokémon becomes a Haunter at level twenty five, but that’s the easy part. If you want to get it to its last stage, you’ll unfortunately have to find someone to do a trade and then trade-back with you, as Haunter requires that process to become a Gengar. Haunter has pretty good stats that make him useable without a need to evolve, so no harm in skipping if you don’t have a Switch Online subscription. Gengar can be found in raid dens in South Lake Miloch, Stony Wilderness and Giant’s Mirror should you want to get a step ahead. Do note however, that Gengar’s special gigantamax form is exclusive to Shield, specifically only in the dens in Stone Wilderness.

Gengar is a powerful Ghost-type Pokémon that evolves from Haunter that can be difficult to acquire. You’ll need to catch or trade for a Haunter and then trade that Haunter to someone else to trigger its evolution. Haunter isn’t available in all games, so you may not be able to find it without a friend or trading buddy.

How To Use Gengar
You’ll want to maximize Gengar’s abilities as a poison-type just as much as you do his ghostly powers. Poison-types are extremely underrated, yet are some of the most capable battlers to have in your team rotation. Therefore teaching Gengar Poison Jab is a must. Another suggestion would be Sludge Wave, which is a special attack you can purchase from a trader for 5,000 watts. For ghost moves, Shadow Ball and Phantom Force should carry you. Phantom Force can be found in the Slumbering Weald, and Gengar can learn Shadow Ball at level 48.

Evolution Guide Pokemon Sword And Shield
Our Pokemon Sword and Shield Evolution Guide details everything that you need to know about evolving your Pokemon in Pokemon Sword and Shield. Before we start this guide, we would like to mention here that this is not a compendium of all Pokemon and their evolution. This guide only lists those Pokemon whose evolution is different from the regular Pokemon who level up simply by hitting a particular level.
Sneasel
If you want to evolve your Sneasel into a Weavile, you will need to follow a few steps which starts by increasing the level of your Sneasel. Make sure your Sneasel is at least a Level 20 or above. In addition, your Sneasel must have a Razor Claw which can be purchased from the Battle Points Store. Once it is done as well, level up your Sneasel during the night time and it will evolve into Weavile.
Haunter
Haunter is another Pokemon in Pokemon Sword and Shield which cannot be evolved by traditional methods. Haunter evolves only when you trade it with another trainer. This trainer also needs to be a real human and not an AI. Things get complicated here because if the trainer you are trading with refuses to trade your Gengar back to you, you might be left without a Haunter as well let alone a Gengar.
Snom
Yamask
Linoone
Linoone evolves into Obstagoon only when you reach Level 35 and after that level it up during night time. It will not evolve during the day time even if you level up so reach level 35 and then level up during the night time to trigger the evolution.
