Many of us at GameSpot have logged hundreds of hours into Animal Crossing: New Horizons, the island simulation game that released last year. The beauty of Animal Crossing is that its tranquil setting and rather relaxed activities–fishing, bug-catching, chatting with fellow residents–appeal to players of all ages. Only one island can be created on a single Nintendo Switch, though, so your household might need multiple Switch consoles so everyone can play in harmony. Part of the joy of Animal Crossing is visiting your friends’ islands, sharing resources, and hanging out in a calming, pleasant setting.
Will The Switch Gain Access To A Virtual Console
But wait, you might be saying. Does this mean the Switch is finally getting a Virtual Console, like the 3DS, Wii, and Wii U before it? Thats a solid no, unfortunately. When Nintendo finally detailed their plans for the Switchs online service in 2018, former president of Nintendo of America, Reggie Fils-Aime, confirmed that a Virtual Console would not be coming to the Switch, at least in the planned future stating that there were no plans to use the Virtual Console banner on the Switch.
Instead, Nintendo has two options for those looking to play older games on the Switch. The first is through the eShop itself, as some publishersincluding Nintendohave taken to releasing classic ports of games from consoles and arcade machines like the Neo Geo. There are a number of Neo Geo classics on the eShop right now, like Blazing Star and Fatal Fury.
The second option for downloading classic games comes in the form of Nintendos online service, which includes a selection of NES games like Ice Climbers and the original Super Mario Bros., plus a new collection of SNES titles that arrived in September of 2019.
Unfortunately, 2020 came and went without the launch of a Nintendo 64 collection for Switch. However, 2021 marks the 25th anniversary of the system, so keep an eye out for potential news sometime this year.
Pokmon Mystery Team: Rescue Team Dx
This game is starkly different from the other games in the series because, instead of being a Pokémon Trainer, youre a Pokémon. Whaaaat. Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Rescue Team DX lets you wake up as a Pokémon and explore the world through their eyes. Youll be able to meet and recruit more than 400 Pokémon in a dungeon-crawling adventure. You can build a rescue team to tackle mysteries, change dungeons, and plan your moves as you venture through the world to make it safer for the Pokémon who live there. You may uncover your purpose for being a Pokémon on your way!
This game is more of a Pokémon building game rather than a collect-and-fight-them game. As you recruit adorable Pokémon team members, theyll need places to stay and food to eat. Youll need to build camps to house, manage, and strengthen your friends. Youll also need to plan out your rescue teams as well. Each mystery will require you and your team to battle other Pokémon in a turn-based fight. A Pokémons strengths, weaknesses, and potentially rare qualities will be essential when planning your next mystery.

Pokmon X And Y Should Receive Ports For The Nintendo Switch
Of the eight generations currently available in the Pokémon series, Pokémon X and Y would be among some of the most exciting titles to receive a potential port to the Nintendo Switch. The Kalos region introduced many mechanics that have become popular in subsequent installations to the series, including enhanced battle mechanics like Mega Evolutions, character customization, and heavier importance on Pokémon NPC involvement in the narrative. Pokémon X and Y were released in 2013 for the Nintendo 3DS, during the transition from the well-known pixelated graphics and sprites of the original games to the widespread use of 3D art and models in more recent titles. Because of this, the art and gameplay would likely hold up well on the Nintendo Switch, with minimal changes needed to be enjoyable.

Pokmon Sun And Moon On Nintendo Switch
However, these postings may be related to a rumour weve heard before. Its been said that there is a Nintendo Switch version of the most recent series entries, Pokémon Sun and Moon, in the works. It wont actually be called Sun and Moon, though. Instead, its tipped to be titled Pokémon Stars, which follows the celestial naming scheme of the latest games.
It would supposedly act as the third entry in the latest generation of Pokémon games, like Pokémon Yellow to the original Pokémon Red and Blue. Theres usually a third game in a generation thats launched later than the original pair a trend that continued until Pokémon Platinum for Pokémon Diamond and Pearl.
Supposedly, Pokémon Stars would be the third game to compliment Pokémon Sun and Moon but for the first time, the third game would launch on a different console to the originals.
If that is true, the Nintendo Switch would technically become the first Pokémon game to launch on a home console.
According to a report from Eurogamer, development on Pokémon Stars for the Nintendo Switch was paused at the end of last year to allow the team to apply the finishing touches to Pokémon Sun and Moon for the 3DS. But, it would seem that these efforts have now reignited.

Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD Remaster packs in both FFX and FFX-2 into a single game card, and they’ve both been remastered with high-definition graphics that look amazing on the Switch. Both games also have remastered soundtracks as well, and you can choose which one you want to hear from the get-go. Even though the game is almost 20 years old, the gameplay mechanics are still modern and fun.

Gen 1 Reimagined: Pokmon: Let’s Go Eevee
This is the counterpart to Let’s Go, Pikachu. It allows players to run around with a special Eevee while exploring the Kanto region. Players can even ride on Charizard, Arcanine, or some other large Pokémon’s back while exploring. Pass a Joy-Con to a friend, and you can both capture Pokémon together.

Lets Go is essentially a 3D remake of Pokémon Yellow, which was a slightly enhanced version of the original Red and Blue on the Game Boy. Its story is simple: youre a kid who leaves home to go on a quest where you meet and befriend as many pocket monsters as possible while fighting to earn gym badges and take on the Pokémon League.
Yellow, like all subsequent Pokémon RPGs, was filled with random battles. In order to capture creatures, you first had to weaken them in a fight. Lets Go does away with this altogether. Instead, you randomly come across monsters in caves or fields and capture them by tossing pokéballs at them, using the Switchs Joy-Con controllers motion controls to simulate the toss. Its very intuitive and feels remarkably like Pokémon Go. For veterans, it might feel like something is missing, but for my kid, it made total sense: this is exactly how shes used to catching pokémon.
From there, the game slowly starts to resemble a more traditional Pokémon experience. You still battle against other trainers, and your monsters level up and evolve over time. If they get hurt, you give them a potion or take them to a Pokémon Center. Initially, some of these concepts were a bit hard to grasp for my daughter, particularly finding her way around the Kanto region, but thats where one of Lets Gos best features comes in: co-op.
Pokémon: Lets Go
Pokmon Sword And Shield: 81/100
At its core, Pokémon Sword and Shield is a role-playing game about a fantastic world full of magical wildlife, continuing the trend of following a young Pokémon trainer through their journey. Featuring a locale based on the United Kingdom, Pokémon Sword and Shield took some of the best achievements from previous titles and incorporated them in this latest entry. Pokémon roam the overworld much like in Pokémon: Let’s Go, Pikachu! and Eevee! and there are even raid encounters players can team up to tackle.
With a score of 81, Pokémon Sword and Shield stands as the best-received Pokémon games on Switch. The titles capture enough of what has made Pokémon great over the franchise’s lifetime while finding places to introduce new features and improvements. It’s all accomplished without rocking the precariously perched boat enough to scare off longtime fans or newcomers. Critics praised the title for streamlining tedious activities and reinvigorating battles with the Dynamax feature.

What About The Older Games
As this is a rumor, and still in its infancy at that, details beyond what we shared above are unknown. The selection of titles is interesting given no games from either Gen 1, 2 or 4 are listed.
However, given it is being referred to as a Master Collection it is difficult to believe at least some of these wont be included in some form. If the likes of Red/Blue , and any other games pre Pokemon X and Y were included, they would surely be popular.
There may be a simple explanation behind their apparent exclusion, though. Gen 1 may come in the form of the GBA versions of the game or might be excluded entirely to encourage the use of Pokemon Lets Go.
The Old Pokmon Games Need Nintendo Switch Ports
Pokémon should port the Gen 1, 2, and 3 games to the Nintendo Switch so that fans can buy titles lost to obsolete gaming systems and enjoy them again.
For many fans of Pokémon, the games that got them into the series have been lost to time. Currently relegated to ageing cartridges, the older Pokémon titles need to be ported to a modern system like the Nintendo Switch so that fans wanting to go back and play the original games can access them more easily. Porting the older generation Pokémon games to Switch would fix the age-induced accessibility issues for these titles and remove the risk of players downloading illegitimate ports in hopes of playing through a favorite generation one more time.
Pokémon games have been coming out since 1996, starting with the original Game Boy, and have steadily released through the evolution of Nintendo handheld consoles. Because of this, Pokémon games predating the 3DS have been left behind as their consoles become obsolete or break down. While some players may have a copy of every game stored away, working consoles may no longer be accessible without a substantial cost, making playing these older titles difficult.

Three Pokemon Games Launch Today On Nintendo Switch And 3ds

Kanto Trip: Pokmon: Let’s Go Pikachu
This gorgeous game reimagines the Kanto region from the first Pokémon game and allows players to revisit the fun with upgraded graphics. Players start with a special Pikachu who follows them around and can wear fun clothes. Pokémon fights are mainly limited to trainer and gym battles. Most wild Pokémon are simply caught by throwing a Poké Ball. Players will need to trade with Let’s Go, Eevee players to catch all of the Pokémon in the game.

Pokkn Tournament Dx: 78/100
Pokkén Tournament DX is a unique entry in the Pokémon franchise. A fighting game akin to Tekken in which the player controls a Pokémon, it’s probably the closest to a modern take on Pokémon Stadium or Pokémon Colosseum we’ll get for some time. Focusing on the less technical aspects of fighting games, Pokkén Tournament DX has two phases in battles. The Field Phase allows players to move freely about the arena, powering up or utilizing long-range abilities, while the Duel Phase brings the combatants in close for some action.
Pokkén Tournament DX was released in 2017 and is an enhanced port of the 2015 Japanese arcade game ported to Nintendo’s Wii U in 2016. Featuring an expanded roster and improvements to local multiplayer, the Switch version holds a score of 78 and has been generally met with positive reception, widely being considered the definitive version of the game
